CSU / NCEDC Partnership

In 2006, Northern Colorado Economic Development Corporation (NCEDC) committed to a five year partnership with Colorado State University (CSU)
to hire and partially fund a regional economist and collaborate on economic development-oriented programs, encouraging technology transfer and
regional corporate investment.

The two organizations hired Dr. Martin Shields as regional economist.
Shields, previous director of Pennsylvania State University’s Center for
Economic and Community Development since 1998, began his new duties
at CSU in August 2006.  He is based in the economics department of the
College of Liberal Arts and also reports to the Office of Economic
Development on his outreach activities.

Colorado State University’s Office of Economic Development (OED) is part
of the Office of the Vice Provost for Outreach and Strategic Partnerships.
OED’s mission is to leverage CSU’s capabilities to grow the health of the Colorado economy by building partnerships with industry, local communities
and economic development organizations; implementing economic development
outreach programs; and supporting CSU start-ups. OED’s three primary program
areas are: Growing Economies and Empowering Local Communities; Economic
Development Research; and Support for Entrepreneurs and Emerging Enterprises.
